Giant Launch!

Here is a test I worked on with Giant a while ago. I'm really happy with it, they polished it off so well.

Also they had their launch on Thursday the 26th, it was a fantastic night and the reel went down pretty well I thought. They also got nominated for an IFTA for another piece they worked. I'm really proud to be associated with these guys and to be lucky enough to also have them as my good friends and I wish them all the best.

Greetings !

Wanna wish you all well in this new year, I'm sitting on a tonne of sketchbook drawings from Halloween and Christmas that I cant finish now that its over oh well ! I sketched these dogs ages ago during the summer and gave them a lick recently. Mainly testing things out some of them are pen cleaned and marker with some added stuff... I have another page almost done I'll add it soon. Also viking pages in the making !

I worked on this piece a couple of months back when I was in Giant Creative. It was so much fun to do this test it came about after a random drawing i did we sat down and boarded it out that day and got to work. Very productive!

Giant are launching officially in January and have already put some work up on their vimeo account you should check it all out!

I have a bunch of drawings for this I went viking crazy for a while so I can start putting those pages together over the Christmas break. Show how it was made maybe! I'll get something more festive up before then too!

Hey I'm sorry for the huge delay! I have been very busy! After finishing up a project with Giant I got an offer to work in Boulder Media for a while so I am in there doing backgrounds for a few Disney projects. I do miss my boys, and I will be back! but this was a great chance for me to learn the ropes in a bigger studio and so far it has been great, everyone is very friendly and extremely talented! I also visited Annecy and had a blast with the lads I really have to go there again.

I am using my tablet in work to speed myself up so I don't usually bring it home so my sketchbook has been keeping me busy lately so my stuff is pretty rough I'm sorry! I have been doing this random shape drawing lately where i map out a page of shapes or someone else does for me and then i do what i can with them, its a lot of fun and works some of the time, I think you can see it in one of the full pages I've put up. Along with some random doodles from when I had my tablet...

In my last two posts the images can't be clicked on to be viewed anyone know why? :S

I did these recently trying to mix up the way I draw, it was lots of fun. I had these brush markers from ages ago so I just threw colour onto them. I think ill start doing it more often to my sketchbook drawings but not as messy next time. My moleskin is finished I need to get a new one :( Also a stupid drawing I had lying around and some random shape thingys I did on Friday evening before I left work

The film is finally online, a making of is on its way too. I made this for my first year in the Degree course with Alex Sherwood and Daniel Courtney. It was alot of work and we later found out that it was the same way Pixar made Day and Night and we laughed very hard.

Hi there! This is the final image I did for the charity, some mad rough desaturated sketches of a fat builder and some random characters.. So I have been doodling on this Latest Show Ever thing just thinking of designs and stuff, I will learn alot from it in the end because I need to think of things more in 3D for the other guys that are modelling them also getting back into 3D which needs to be done. There is a range of quality in these, but they were ideas they dont always need to be well drawn I guess. Its a intro for a show, so the space man is supposed to flick a few switches and fly around and insert a plug into a socket that brings letters together. I have been trying to fill my time with some layouts and my sketchbook so I will start posting on the regular! Hope everyone is keeping well!

This is a sorta socket thing that the guys plug will go into, it was fun modelling this even though its probably too high poly and a bit messy.
This is a texture for the sleeves of the Space Man (which can be seen on Dimas blog) im painting them in Photoshop with that new 3D painting thing. This is way too detailed for what we are going for but its the only texture I have to show at this point. Its good fun looking at a model while you are painting it on. I cant wait to do the whole Spaceman even though it will take a good bit I fear.

We wanted space to sorta help compose the shots, some of these are too busy but we are interested in putting colour in the background

Here is the final invite that was sent around to industry etc for the the End of Year show. It was nice to be selected to be shown and to have the invite hanging around in the IFI. I have about 10 copies of it now incase anybody wants one.

I will put up some Dossier pages and backgrounds etc soon. Im just really tired after getting it all together for the show.

Last night I attended the Student Media Awards. We were up against some great films with a really high standard, last years Ballyfermot films were the best yet! Congratulations again to everyone who was shortlisted and nominated and thanks to everyone who supported the team during the year. I had some close friends at the award show and I was delighted to have them with me. I also want to congratulate Sean Mullen on winning the Short Animation of the year, its a great film and I'm glad its getting noticed for it! Here is a still from his short. We talked about nuns a while back on a college trip and i drew some on the way home on the plane. These were just quick sketches done pretty late at night, when I try to unwind after doing college work, I then regret it and wish i went to bed instead. I might clean these up and put them with the rest from my sketchpad when im finally allowed to draw whatever i want again.. man I cant wait!

Just found out that The Old Guys was nominated for the Student Media Awards coming up at the end of April! There were 8 films shortlisted for the awards, all were from Ballyfermot College. Not very happy with the page, think they look better in my book.. but here are the other cliffs I did ages ago using pantones, including the crappy quick painting I did when I first thought thought of the story. Been up to my eyeballs with dissertation crap, have the final character that i decided on so I will throw those pages up soon when I make them. Started roughing out some animation too so I'm happy that has started anyway! Happy belated new year!

Just got news that Old Guys is going to be screened in E-magicens! They have made a demo video of all the things they are showing. http://www.e-createurs.net/emagiciens/uk/accueil.php
Not very happy with the piece they picked but meh. Old guys is also picked for "The Best in Show" its screen in the digital hub on weekends or something. Check out their website. Been ages since I've posted work, I hope to work on getting some of my dossier done over the Christmas and I'll be working with Alex putting the Earthwater preproduction work together too so I'll have loads.

So long time no post. This is what I was working on over the summer mainly on the concept, story and layouts with a little bit of animation. We had a nice big group with people coming in and out..with Alex Sherwood, Daniel Courtney, Dimitri Zolotoukhinem, Cormac McCabe and Colm Griffin. They are linked in my friends list. I'll post the concepts and layouts soon. Earthwater is a company that sells water and then gives a percentage to building wells and so on in Africa. (A turkey is a bad person :P)

This is down at the moment as it is under going some sound work and also they dont want it leaked out first.. so it will come around soon hopefully.

I was asked to do create a response to something cultural I have seen. I had been reading a pre production book so I really just wanted to do a lot of shots and colour studies... The film was Rocknrolla.. I didn't really like it, but the colours used in the film were really really nice I thought. The scanner didnt really pick up the colours I had on the page I think.. I used just ink and watercolours.
